Unfortunately I write today with very little enthusiasm. It's more difficult than I remember to actually drop even 5 pounds.
I felt I was doing very well. As I wrote in my last post, I've been eating healthy, exercising every day ....then came Friday evening where I took my first misstep and went to eat dinner at Frickers. I had chicken nachos AND I picked at some fries from my boyfriends plate. I know, I know but I figured it couldn't have been that bad since I had exercised that day (Insanity) and I only had one meal and a juice prior to the nachos. After dinner we even went bowling, which I looked up and actually burns about 177 calories per hour- I bowled an hour for sure. (check out this link and see how much you burn from regular activities: http://www.nutristrategy.com/activitylist.htm)
Then came Saturday. I refused to weigh myself because I didn't want to get myself down and whole heartedly regret the delicious nachos. So I went about my day as normal. I ate a healthy brunch and made a delicious juice. So far so good. I did my arm exercises with my 8 lb weights and I did dead lifts (which my Weightlifting friend William says is really great for back fat-if you need instruction on deadlifts: http://www.5min.com/Video/How-to-Do-The-Deadlift-with-Proper-Form-122696451)
After this fabulous start, I knew it would not end well because I was going to a party that included booze and plenty of food since it was a potluck. Needless to say my willpower failed me and I succumbed to everything, twice! lol!
Sunday I refused to weigh myself because the damage had already been done. Instead I ate exceptionally healthy all day and I even went on a 9 mile walk! That's right folks, 9 freaking miles! I should also mention it was only 20 degrees yesterday. I thoroughly enjoyed my walk because my new dear friend Ellen made it tons of fun and we were able to catch up.
Then came today. I couldn't avoid it any longer. I had to weigh myself. 152.6. What a disappointment. But I'm recharged and ready to rock and roll this week. I'm kinda worried for this weekend though because it's my birthday Friday and I'm heading to Canada. I am going to try to make the best decisions when it comes to restaurant eating but no promises at my romantic birthday dinner!
Last I want to share some tips I recently read in my Bazaar magazine:
Article was Titled "Lose the Last 5 Pounds for Good"
Tip 1: Cut alcohol and caffeine. Consider this "If you're drinking more than 2 alcoholic beverages a week, you can DROP two to three pounds in the first two weeks simply by cutting them out"
Tip 2: Drink 12-16 glasses of water a day (eek- totally guilty of not drinking enough water) Also drink decaf oolong tea "its been shown to increase metabolism by 10 percent..." (I have yet to try it but will be searching for this particular tea)
Tip 3: Double up your workouts. In the AM do compound exercises, try this
1. 2 min jumping rope
2. 20 sumo squats
3. 15 burpees
4. 10 traditional push ups
*I did this today and it really got the blood flowing
Then in PM do cardio- jog 30-45 minutes. I think I'm going to do Insanity in the early evening instead.
So there ya go everyone. Here's hoping you have had better results this week than me!

Over doing it....
The last blog I had estimated my weight as 150.4 because the last time I had stepped on the scale in El Paso that's what it read. It was lying. The day after my last blog I purchased a scale and the son of a B actually read 154.6!!!! I also took my "before" photos but am hesitant to put them online until I see a difference and I can place them side by side with my "after".
I'm remaining positive that I will hit my goal and stay that way until I'm pregnant! Lol! But all kidding aside, I have actually seen the numbers on the scale go down...today it read 149.4! Granted that's only 1 lb from what I originally thought I was starting at, it is still a positive step and I'm glad to know my real starting weight.
The last few days I have taken advantage of the sun being out and have gone walking and biking. I also have been doing some arm exercises with my 8lb weights. The day before yesterday I went on a 13 mile bike ride, really, I could have gone longer but the sun was on it's way down and I'm not fond of being by myself at dusk, outside. I did make a very huge mistake...I didn't bring water!! When I got home I drove to the grocery store for some ginger root, fresh thyme and lemons, after my quick shopping stop I came home only to feel nauseated. I drank lots of water and rested on the couch, I also had a couple of pretzels with cheese and a bit of peanut butter...one hour later and I felt great! Dehydration stinks y'all. Moral of the story, drink plenty of fluids!
Below are a three of my favorite meals to make:
Breakfast: 1 egg scrambled with tons of mushroom and half a pancake chock full of walnuts with strawberry slices on top ( I usually only eat half a pancake once a week)
Lunch: A chicken breast halved lengthed wise and baked. Cut into pieces added a top spring mix with strawberries, handful of crushed walnuts and a spoonful of feta cheese. Drizzled with a spoonful of balsamic dressing. ***OR***Replace chicken with tuna-sometimes I add a small spoon of mayo.
***my pedometer after a long walk Monday, approx 7 miles. Look at the bottom right, 687 calories burned! That's what I'm talking about!:)
I also received my Juicer! I made my first concoction yesterday in the late afternoon (2 apple, 2 small oranges, 2 handful of baby carrots and 1" of ginger root) It was.......AMAZING. Totally a great snack. I ordered the "Big Book of Juices" from Amazon and have yet to receive it. I want to ultimately find a juicing recipe that can be a meal replacement at least 3 times a week.
PS Sandrita YOU CAN DO IT!
PPS How is your progress coming along?

A juicer is on it's way!
Thank you everyone for the tips and the positive reinforcement!!!
Ebony, you are so right, planning meals and snacks beforehand always helped my keep on track. Since I'm in the process of finding a job, I've honestly gotten even LAZIER at planning meals because I take advantage of the fact that I'm in my apartment all day. So instead of planning, I just whip something up when it comes time to eat, and usually when that's the case I tend to choose things that are easy to make and are essentially not the best choices.
Kera, thank you so much for referring us to Loseit.com! Including you and me, two other friends have joined! And you're absolutely right, I have to post my goals. So ladies here are my goals for 2012, the happier, healthier me:
(I don't have a working scale in Ohio but three days ago I weighed myself in El Paso- new scale will be purchased today)
In El Paso I weighed (in the morning) 150.4 lbs!!!!!! EEEEEEEEEEK!
My goal right now is to lose just 10 lbs. Ultimately I would like my weight to fluctuate between 130-135, however, that's freaking 20 lbs to lose and that's disheartening!!! So a 10 lb loss would make a world of difference.:)
I have two amazing dresses that are so ridiculously tight on my hips that they are impossible to wear. I will post a picture of both. The purple is a Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent in size Medium. It fits above the waist but on my hips it looks like the poor seams are about to burst! The beige dress is Sue Wong, the beading is so intricate and it's just gorgeous, this dress won't even zip up let alone go over my hips and it's a size 6 (but reviews of the dress did warn that it runs small- I didn't read that until the damn dress was already purchased).
MY GOAL IS TO LOOK FABULOUS IN BOTH DRESSES ASAP! lol!
I'm on my way! Today I made 1/2 cup oatmeal with less than a teaspoon of brown sugar to taste, half a small apple chopped, strawberries chopped & less than 10 walnuts crushed. Microwaved in water.

This is my first attempt at creating a blog for special friends and family so if it totally sucks, sorry, perhaps you can give me a few tips?
Alaina and I were discussing New Years Resolutions and as cliche as it may be, we both would like to live a healthier lifestyle in 2012. And yes, that does encompass losing the extra pounds we have gained. This being said, even though Alaina and I are by no means "overweight" and even though we both feel the other looks gorgeous no matter what, neither of us are happy with ourselves. So we've decided we should create a blog where we can both track our progress in our goal to essentially feel GREAT about ourselves!
I invite you to comment and share your own successes and maybe we can all start a challenge.
You don't have to join and I know that many of you don't even believe in New Years Resolutions....but Alaina and I would love the support!;)
Just keep telling us "You Can Do It!"
